The proceedings of the 10th Executive Council of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) wrapped up on Thursday in Libreville, following two days of exchange and debate mainly on the leading role of African press agencies in ensuring the continent’s information sovereignty.
During this meeting, FAAPA secretary-general, Mohamed Anis, presented the 2024 activity report, as well as the different programs and projects led by the Federation for its member agencies.
In this respect, he recalled the organization by FAAPA in October of a training session for photographers from member agencies, and the creation of the Pan-African Network of FAAPA Photojournalists, as well as the participation in several seminars.
The Executive Council members then examined the final report of the 8th FAAPA General Assembly held on January 21-22 in Rabat-Salé and discussed the editorial side of the FAAPA portal, whose production exceeded 10,100 stories in nine months, from January 1 to September 30, 2025.
The Council then discussed the financial contributions of FAAPA member agencies for 2025, welcoming the commitment of the news agencies that paid their contributions on time.
Finally, the Council members selected the winners of the FAAPA Media Grand Prix in the categories of best article, best photo and best video report.
The proceedings of this tenth FAAPA Executive Council kicked off on Wednesday in the presence of the Vice President of the Gabonese government, Alexandre Chambrier, and the Gabonese Minister of Communication and Media, Paul-Marie Gondjout.
In his opening address at the event, attended by members of the Gabonese government and Morocco’s ambassador to Gabon, Abdellah Sbihi, FAAPA President, Fouad Arif, emphasized that press agencies must once again become the primary and legitimate sources of information, emphasizing the need to protect informational sovereignty.
Created on October 14, 2014, FAAPA aims to establish a strategic partnership and develop professional relations between news agencies.
It also aims to contribute to the consolidation of the free flow of information and to strengthen cooperation and coordination at regional and international forums.
