Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh met on Wednesday in London with the President of the World Maritime University (WMU), Maximo Mejia, to discuss strengthening cooperation in maritime training.

Held on the sidelines of the 34th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly and attended notably by Morocco’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hakim Hajoui, the meeting allowed both parties to review the key orientations of Morocco’s maritime strategy.

The talks also focused on the potential establishment of a WMU branch in Morocco, aimed at enhancing the capacities of Moroccan and African seafarers, a project aligned with the strong momentum driving the national maritime sector under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

In a statement to MAP following the meeting, Mejia welcomed the discussions with the Moroccan delegation on major maritime issues and on ways to strengthen collaboration between WMU and the Kingdom.

He also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s efforts in implementing its maritime strategy and development program.

For his part, Kayouh highlighted that the meeting provided an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s considerable maritime potential, as well as its ambition to position itself as a regional hub for training and research.

The minister also welcomed the exploration of the possibility of establishing a WMU branch in Morocco, which would help build the capacities of Moroccan and African students.
