Omar Hilale, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, has described King Mohammed VI’s diplomacy as a multifaceted approach that is widely admired on the international stage.

Speaking at the “Morocco Diplomatic Sahara Forum” in Dakhla on Friday, Hilale emphasized the credibility, engagement, and universal values that underpin the country’s diplomatic efforts.

“The King’s diplomacy is not mono-causal. It is a plural diplomacy par excellence, whose international influence is immensely envied,” Hilale stated.

He highlighted Moroccan diplomacy’s commitment to finding solutions to global issues, its promotion of moderation, and its respect for universal values.

Hilale outlined several key aspects of Morocco’s diplomatic approach, including its spiritual dimension, with the King, as Commander of the Faithful, promoting authentic Islam, a culture of peace, intercultural and interfaith dialogue, and harmonious coexistence among peoples.

The diplomat also noted the country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its significant progress in the field of human rights under King Mohammed VI’s reign.

In addition, Hilale emphasized Morocco’s humanitarian vocation, its role in European neighborhood and peacekeeping, and its strong commitment to South-South cooperation.

He recalled that the King has made 50 trips across the African continent, opening up markets for Moroccan private sector and businesses in various fields.

According to Hilale, King Mohammed VI’s diplomacy has been built on a set of fundamentals over the past quarter-century, including the sanctity of the national cause, the strength of principles, decision-making independence, a clear vision of global challenges, and transparency with bilateral and international partners.

He also highlighted the North African nation’s resilience in the face of regional and international upheavals and its ambition to be among the influential and active countries on the global stage.

Regarding the Western Sahara dispute, Hilale stressed that it has been and remains at the forefront of King Mohammed VI’s diplomatic priorities since the first day of his reign.

“The time he has devoted to it, the daily monitoring he has dedicated to it, and the firmness he has shown in its defense have profoundly impacted the management of this issue at the UN and elsewhere,” the diplomat explained.

Hilale noted that the sustained action and tireless efforts to raise awareness led by the King have anchored the justness of the national cause at the regional and international levels.

This has resulted in recognition and support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara by major countries such as the United States and France, as well as dozens of Arab, African, and Latin American nations, with around 30 of them opening Consulates General in Laayoune and Dakhla.
