Twenty-two people were killed and 2,824 injured, 115 of them seriously, in the 2,153 road accidents that occurred in urban areas on December 30- January 5, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
These accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding and failure to keep a safe distance, DGSN pointed out in a press release.
Regarding the control and enforcement of traffic violations, the security services issued 47,556 tickets, submitted 8,306 reports to the public prosecutor’s office for driving license withdrawal, and collected 39,250 transactional fines, totaling 8.5 million dirhams, according to the same source.
The DGSN also reported the impoundment of 4,855 vehicles and the immobilization of 374 others.
