Morocco’s tourism industry continues to prove the sector’s strength as the country recorded a new historic record of 1.2 million tourist arrivals in January.

The number shows a 27% increase compared to January 2024.

“Morocco continues its upward trend in early 2025, surpassing for the first time the symbolic milestone of one million tourists in January,” the ministry said.

About 272,000 additional tourists visited Morocco compared to the number rerecorded in January 2024.

The tourism ministry said the number reflects the growing appeal of Morocco as a primary destination. It recalled nationwide efforts — including initiatives and campaigns – deployed in recent years to put Morocco on the global tourism map.

Minister of Tourism Farim Zahra Ammor said these numbers have established Morocco as a “true four-season destination.”

The positive trend mirrors a “major qualitative goal for our roadmap,” she added

Morocco welcomed 17.4 million visitors in 2024, a 20% increase compared to 2023.

Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) flocked to the country during the summer season in record-breaking numbers.

The North African kingdom’s growing appeal as a go-to destination is also well-documented through the whopping $11.1 billion revenues its tourism sector recorded last year from the sector.

These figures indicate a growth of 7.5% in revenues compared to the previous year.

Morocco’s next goal is to attract 26 million tourists by 2030, and the objective appears to be within reach as the country prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations later this year and co-organize the 2030 World Cup.
