Morocco, Finland Set to Promote Parliamentary Cooperation

Cooperation between Moroccan and Finnish legislative institutions was the focus of talks, on Monday in Rabat, between Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, and Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, Jussi Halla-aho.

During these talks, the two sides stressed the importance of exchanging visits and expertise, as well as the role of coordination and consultation in matters of common interest, according to a press release from the House of Representatives.

The Finnish Speaker, cited by the press release, considered that his visit to the Kingdom reflects the depth of the strong friendly relations between the two countries, and will help to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas.

For his part, Talbi El Alami highlighted the friendly relations forged between Morocco and Finland, stressing that the two countries share the same values of democracy, human rights, freedom and the promotion of the status of women.

The Lower House Speaker took the opportunity to review the major projects in which the Kingdom has embarked under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in a number of areas including social protection, health, energy and reform of the Family Code, as well as highlighting the main political, economic and social reforms undertaken by Morocco.

During this meeting, the Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, who is on a working visit to Morocco at the head of a large delegation, invited Talbi El Alami to pay a visit to his country with to “strengthen cooperation between the two legislative institutions”, the press release notes.

The meeting was attended by President of the Morocco-Finland Friendship Group, Aicha Zelfa, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to Morocco, Marjaana Sall, and members of the Finnish parliamentary delegation.
