Morocco’s manufacturing industry, excluding petroleum refining, achieved a 5% growth in production during the last quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

According to the High Commission for Planning (HCP), this growth was primarily driven by strong production in key industries.

Non-metallic mineral products rose by 12.5%, the chemical sector expanded by 6.6%, and computer, electronic, and optical products surged by 25.7%.

Other industries also posted gains. Tobacco product manufacturing edged up by 5.6%, food industries grew by 2.4%, and pharmaceutical production advanced by 7.6%, the HCP reported.

However, some industries faced a dismal downturn during this period. Transport equipment manufacturing dipped by 14.5%, the apparel sector declined by 2.9%, leather and footwear production fell by 7.3%, and textiles registered a 2.3% decrease.

Morocco’s extractive industries also made its gains, with overall production up by 9.2%. This rise was driven by a 9.5% increase in various extractive products and a slight marginal 0.2% uptick in metallic mineral extraction.

Electricity production followed a similar trend, rising by 6%.

Over the course of 2024, industrial output showed steady progress. Extractive industries posted a 21% increase, manufacturing (excluding petroleum refining) grew by 5.4%, and electricity generation crept up by 1.5% compared to the previous year.

With the support of a diverse industrial base and a growing emphasis on technology and high-value sectors, Morocco continues to consolidate its position as a key player in regional manufacturing.

Despite challenges in some industries, the country’s steady expansion tells an economy that remains dynamic and forward-looking.
