Morocco’s customs revenue has reached a historic record MAD 144.8 billion for 2024, against MAD 132.5 billion in 2023, showing a growth rate of 9.2%, according to the Customs and Excise Administration (ADII).

This performance is mainly due to the increase in value-added tax (VAT) revenue, domestic consumption tax and import duty, ADII said in a report.

Compared to the forecasts in the 2024 Finance Bill, customs revenues reached 104.9% in terms of duties paid and 108.1% in terms of duties assessed, according to the same source.

The structure of budgetary customs revenues in 2024 was marked by a 1-point decline in the share of domestic consumption tax (27% in 2024 compared to 26% in 2023) in favor of VAT, which accounts for 62% of revenues, and import duty, which accounts for 12% of revenues.
