Five regions of the Kingdom stood out in 2023 with gross domestic product (GDP) growth rates above the national average (3.7%), according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

These are the regions of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (10.1%), Fez-Meknes (8.9%), Marrakech-Safi (6.3%), Casablanca-Settat (5%), and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (4.9%), according to the HCP, as published in a briefing note on regional accounts for 2023.

According to the same source, the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region is experiencing sustained economic growth, driven mainly by the development of the maritime fishing and construction sectors.

For its part, the Fez-Meknes region benefited from agriculture and services sectors’ strong performance.

As for the Marrakech-Safi region, it benefited from the significant recovery of the accommodation and catering field.

The Casablanca-Settat and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima regions were in turn buoyed by the performance of manufacturing and services industries.

In addition, five other regions experienced positive growth, albeit below the national average, namely Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (2.9%), Souss-Massa (1.8%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (0.7%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (1.2%) and Drâa-Tafilalet (1.5%).

In contrast, the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region posted a 1.3% contraction in GDP, attributed to a significant decline in the performance of the agricultural sector. Similarly, the GDP of the Eastern region fell by 1%, following a sharp drop in agricultural production.
