Morocco made technological sovereignty a strategic priority to accompany global advance of artificial intelligence (AI) and support the momentum of its development model, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni said Wednesday in Tangier.
Speaking at a panel held prior to the official kick off of the 17th MEDays International Forum, the minister highlighted that Morocco, under the impetus of HM King Mohammed VI, has embarked on an ambitious digital vision via the “Morocco Digital 2030” strategy, with the aim of developing cloud sovereignty, reinforcing cybersecurity and expanding reliable, transparent and accessible public services.
Seghrouchni noted that the profound transformations brought about by smart technologies and the massive growth in data flows call for increased vigilance, particularly in terms of securing digital infrastructures, protecting data, and controlling technological value chains, all of which are essential levers for building true national digital sovereignty.
In this regard, she stated that artificial intelligence is now at the heart of digital transformation, due to its advanced capabilities to optimize public services, support decision-making, and design more effective public policies.
She specified that establishing a high-performance national ecosystem in this area requires a clear legislative framework, rigorous data governance, and sustained investment in training young people in emerging digital skills.
The minister also spoke of deploying a public administration X.0, based on multi-channel services, interoperable systems, a sovereign cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity solutions that ensure quality, continuity, and protection of personal data, in order to strengthen citizen trust and stimulate innovation within public services.
To her, Morocco is moving steadily towards enshrining its status as a digital hub in Africa and the Mediterranean, thanks to structural projects in the fields of big data, artificial intelligence, and innovative solutions, as well as strengthening international partnerships in advanced technologies.
“Digital sovereignty is the foundation of a competitive economic model and a secure and innovative digital society,” she added, calling on public and private actors to strengthen coordination in order to accelerate the digital transition and support the Kingdom’s sustainable development.
For his part, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti Laurent Lamothe stressed the importance of investing in the digital sector, emphasizing the need to develop a digital policy capable of preserving the technological sovereignty of African countries.
He also stated that Africa is beginning to grasp the importance of this technological sovereignty, stressing that investment in cybersecurity and AI sectors is no longer an afterthought, but a must requiring an appropriate policy framework.
Organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, at the initiative of the Amadeus Institute, the MEDays Forum (November 26-29) is among the main strategic events on the African continent, bringing together heads of state, political leaders, experts, and international actors every year.
