The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council for the Arab States (GCC) reaffirmed on Wednesday in Manama Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its support for the Autonomy Initiative to resolve the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
In its final communiqué endorsing the work of its 46th session, held in the capital of Bahrain, the Council also welcomed Resolution 2797 adopted by the United Nations Security Council on October 31, 2025, which enshrines the autonomy initiative as an important step toward achieving a realistic and achievable solution.
The Council also welcomed the decision by HM King Mohammed VI to submit this initiative to the UN Security Council and to declare October 31 of each year a national holiday under the name “Unity Day.”
This position is consistent with the GCC states’ constant and firm support for the Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory.
