The Arab Parliament held its second plenary session of the 4th legislature’s second session on Saturday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, with Morocco participating.

The proceedings of this session, chaired by President of the Arab Parliament Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, were marked by the election of Egypt’s Hicham El Hasri as Second Vice-President of the Parliament, as well as President of the Foreign Affairs, Political and National Security Committee.

Reports were also presented by the Palestine Committee and the four standing committees, namely the Foreign Affairs, Political and National Security Committee; the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee; the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Committee; and the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women’s and Youth Affairs Committee.

Parliamentarians also examined a proposal by the President of the Arab Parliament to establish a Forum for Arab Women Parliamentarians, as well as another proposal to establish a Forum for Young Arab Parliamentarians.

The four standing committees of the Arab Parliament examined several topics. The Foreign Affairs, Political and National Security Committee discussed preparations for a workshop on the impact of artificial intelligence on Arab national security, while the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee addressed the latest developments in the economic situation in Arab countries.

The Committee on Legislative, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs examined an Arab parliamentary vision for consumer protection in the Arab world in the era of globalization, while the Committee on Social, Education, Culture, Women and Youth presented a draft reference bill aimed at promoting mental health in educational institutions and supporting people with disabilities, which numbers increased following the extermination war waged by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.
