Morocco, Egypt Ink Several Agreements to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Morocco and Egypt inked several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and bilateral cooperation agreements in key areas on Monday in Cairo, during the first session of the Morocco-Egypt Coordination and Follow-up Committee, co-chaired by Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

In this context, a MoU was signed between the Moroccan Institute for Training, Research, and Diplomatic Studies and the Egyptian Institute of Diplomatic Studies.

Signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, this agreement looks to strengthen the partnership between the two parties through establishing an effective and sustainable framework for cooperation in training young diplomats, as well as the exchange of expertise, experiences, and information in the fields of diplomacy, international relations, and international law, based on reciprocity and mutual interest.

An agreement was also inked in the field of sports by Bourita and Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Jawhar Nabil. It focuses on bolstering cooperation through the exchange of scientific expertise in sports science and sports legislation.

In the housing and urban development sector, a memorandum of understanding was initialed by Bourita and Abdelatty, with a view to promoting cooperation in these areas, particularly through the exchange of administrative, technical, and training expertise, as well as promoting investment opportunities and organizing investor visits to housing and infrastructure projects, in accordance with the laws in force in both countries.

The two ministers also signed another MoU in the field of tourism. It seeks to strengthen cooperation in tourism promotion through the exchange of information, publications, promotional materials, and statistics, as well as the marketing of a joint tourism product. The memorandum also provides for the exchange of experiences in tourism and hospitality training, as well as the promotion of investment and the organization of annual meetings in both countries.

In addition, Bourita and Abdelatty signed a cooperation agreement in the health and pharmaceutical sectors. It focuses on reinforcing health cooperation, improving health services, developing expertise in medical and hospital fields, as well as exchanging experiences in the prevention, monitoring, and treatment of cancer, particularly in children, and strengthening ties between health and scientific institutions in both nations.

A cooperation protocol in the field of electricity and new and renewable energy was also inked by the two ministers, to strengthen technical cooperation, advisory services, and the exchange of trainees, experts, and experiences.

In the customs sector, a mutual administrative assistance agreement was signed by Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah and Egyptian Minister of Finance Ahmed Kajok. This agreement aims to ensure the proper enforcement of customs legislation, prevent and combat customs violations, and guarantee the security of the international trade supply chain.

For the industrial sector, Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and his Egyptian peer Khaled Hachem initialed a cooperation protocol aimed at boosting cooperation and developing the industrial sector in both countries.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed regarding the fight against desertification by Minister of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests Ahmed El Bouari and Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Eddine Farouk. The agreement aims to promote cooperation in sustainable development, water resource conservation, and the development of forests and pastures as part of the fight against desertification.

In the field of youth affairs, a cooperation agreement was signed by the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid and Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Jawhar Nabil. It aims to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in areas related to youth and child protection, as well as to develop capacities of young people through joint programs and activities.

A MoU in culture was also signed by Bensaid and Egyptian Minister of Culture Jihane Zaki to strengthen cooperation in the areas of culture, the arts, and heritage, particularly through the promotion of tangible and intangible heritage and the development of cultural professions. An executive program for cultural cooperation was also signed to bolster cultural exchanges through joint projects, visits, and participation in cultural events in both countries.

Similarly, a memorandum of understanding was signed to promote investment relations between the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency and the General Authority of Investment and Free Zones in Egypt. Inked by Minister Delegate for Investment, Convergence, and Public Policy Evaluation Karim Zidane and Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh, this agreement strives to encourage joint investment projects, delegation exchanges, and sharing expertise in investment promotion.

On this occasion, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly signed the minutes of the first session of the Morocco-Egypt Coordination and Follow-up Committee.
