Morocco is establishing itself as a leading platform for high-value-added infrastructure, scientific research, and innovation, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch stated on Tuesday in Marrakech.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4th of GITEX Africa Morocco, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Akhannouch reaffirmed the Kingdom’s willingness to welcome investors in the digital sector, emphasizing that this commitment stems from institutional stability driven by the Sovereign’s enlightened Vision, making the Kingdom a welcoming and trustworthy destination.

The government, he said, has laid the groundwork for a policy that prioritizes the digital sector both in budgetary and institutional terms, backed by proven expertise—notably a generation of developers, engineers, and entrepreneurs who see the world through a new, ambitious lens, in a Morocco strengthened by stability and infrastructure.

In this regard, he highlighted the process of expanding fiber-optic networks and deploying 5G, reinforced by green energy projects designed to power strategic infrastructure.

In accordance with the Royal High Guidelines, Morocco has adopted a strategic approach centered on mastering artificial intelligence, upholding the principles of technological sovereignty and independence in decision-making and innovation, noting that through this approach, the Kingdom has moved up 14 spots in the Government AI Readiness Index for 2025, reflecting a significant evolution in strategies, governance, and institutional capacities.

He further highlighted several initiatives launched by Morocco in the field of artificial intelligence, notably JAZARI ROOT and AI Made in Morocco, which reflect a clear political will to turn AI into a strategic lever in the service of national sovereignty, strengthening territorial justice, and promoting comprehensive and inclusive development.

The GITEX Africa initiative was born from a central idea: to make Africa a platform for telling its own story, Akhannouch emphasized, expressing conviction that after four editions, “the challenge has been met”, as Africa has young people, energy, and ambition, and needs today digital tools, targeted funding for entrepreneurs, creative job opportunities and open markets.
