As part of the humanitarian side activities of the joint Morocco-U.S. African Lion 2026 exercise, held in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, a field medical and surgical hospital (HMCC) has been rolled out starting April 20, in the commune of Al Fayd (Taroudant province).

This hospital involves approximately 160 medical and paramedical personnel from the Royal Armed Forces, alongside about 90 of their American counterparts.

It offers a full range of medical and surgical services covering several specialties, including general medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, ENT, ophthalmology, pediatrics, respiratory diseases, orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine, anesthesiology and intensive care, dentistry, as well as radiology services.

Since its launch, the hospital has seen a growing influx of people of all ages seeking check-ups and specialized care as part of a humanitarian initiative aimed at bringing health services closer to local communities and neighboring villages.

As of May 3, over 31,000 medical services have been provided to approximately 12,080 beneficiaries, reflecting the scale of efforts made by the medical and paramedical teams.

Services also include early disease screening campaigns, a fully stocked pharmacy, and social services units, ensuring comprehensive patient care.

Medical eyeglasses are also distributed to patients with visual impairments, and prescriptions are provided free of charge, thereby helping to alleviate the financial burden on beneficiary families.

This humanitarian initiative reflects high cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America in the medical and humanitarian fields, and provides an opportunity to strengthen the exchange of expertise between the medical teams of both countries.

Social and cultural activities are also hosted for the children, supervised by FAR social services and their American counterparts to bring them joy and comfort and to promote cultural exchange through a variety of educational and recreational programs.

This humanitarian effort illustrates the commitment of the FAR and their U.S. partners to values of solidarity and mutual aid, and highlights the human dimension of the African Lion exercise, which transcends military aspects to social and humanitarian initiatives.

On Monday, a high-level delegation from the General Staff of the FAR South Zone and the U.S. Army visited this hospital.

On this occasion, members of the delegation led by Major General Mohammed Benlouali, Chief of Staff of the South Zone, and Major General Daniel Boyack, Commander of the Utah National Guard, received briefings on the objectives of this initiative and the human and logistical resources engaged to ensure the success of this humanitarian operation, as well as various services provided to the local population by this hospital.
