Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam affirmed on Tuesday in Rabat their determination to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade, economy and investment.

In a statement to the press following talks between the two government officials, Obaed Islam said that Bangladesh and Morocco maintain “historic and long-standing” relations, adding that this visit will contribute to further strengthening economic, trade and investment ties between the two countries, as well as cooperation in the fields of sports and diplomacy.

She also highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the Moroccan and Bangladeshi peoples, affirming that the two countries are called upon to work more closely together in the future.

The Bangladeshi official further noted that Morocco and Bangladesh maintain friendly relations both bilaterally and within several multilateral platforms, expressing her conviction that these historic ties will be further consolidated in the coming years.

For his part, Mezzour stressed the “distinguished” relations between Morocco and Bangladesh, while noting that trade exchanges between the two countries remain modest.

Indeed, the minister noted that Moroccan exports to Bangladesh mainly concern phosphate derivatives, while imports remain limited.

Mezzour also affirmed that Rabat and Dhaka aspire to strengthen their exchanges in several fields, particularly cultural, commercial and sports-related areas, noting that both sides intend to work toward consolidating investment opportunities and bilateral trade prospects.
