After a crunching tackle from Luis Diaz in PSG’s 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on November 4, Achraf Hakimi is still rehabbing the ankle sprain that ensued.
With the Africa Cup of Nations kicking off in Morocco in 12 days, Hakimi is in a race against the clock to regain fitness before the tournament starts. At this stage, his participation remains uncertain, though the player remains confident he will be fit for the tournament opener against Comoros.
RMC Sport reports that the PSG right-back, recent winner of the African Ballon d’Or, is set to travel to Morocco this Tuesday, where he will continue his injury rehabilitation with the aim of suiting up on December 21.
Hakimi will be accompanied by a PSG staff member in order to monitor the player’s progress as well as coordinate his rehab between the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Parisian club.
The 2025 UEFA Champions League winners hope to see the star full-back rejoin Luis Enrique’s side in good fitness at the conclusion of AFCON, per the report.
Regardless of his fitness, Hakimi is expected to feature on Walid Regragui’s squad list for AFCON. On November 7, the Moroccan tactician underlined the importance of having Hakimi around the team.
“We will do everything for him to be 100% against Comores, but if he isn’t, he will be with us no matter what,” Regragui said at a press conference. “He’s the most important player for me, whether on the pitch or in the locker room.”
