The Egyptian national football team booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 after defeating their Beninese counterparts 3–1 after extra time, in a Round of 16 match played on Monday at the Grand Stadium of Agadir.
Egypt opened the scoring through Marwan Attia in the 69th minute, before Benin drew level thanks to Jodel Dossou in the 83rd minute, forcing both teams into extra time.
During extra time, Yasser Ibrahim restored Egypt’s lead in the 97th minute, before Mohamed Salah sealed the Pharaohs’ victory in stoppage time of extra time (120+4).
With this win, Egypt will face in the quarter-finals the winner of the match between Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, scheduled for Tuesday at the Grand Stadium of Marrakech.
