The official headquarters of the Chair of Moroccan Studies was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Faculty of Engineering of Al-Quds University in Abu Dis.
The ceremony was attended, in particular, by the President of Al-Quds University, Hanna Abdennour, the Ambassador of Morocco to Palestine, Abderrahim Meziane, the Managing Director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, as well as the President of the Chair of Moroccan Studies, Safae Nasser Eddine.
This inauguration marks the transition of the Chair from the founding phase to that of institutional and cognitive consolidation.
On this occasion, summaries of research work carried out by faculty members and students who participated in the first call for research projects launched by the Chair were presented.
These works addressed historical, cultural, architectural, and artistic themes related to the Moroccan presence in Al-Quds and its civilizational manifestations, within the framework of a specialized academic debate led by members of the Chair’s Scientific Committee.
On this occasion, the President of Al-Quds University expressed pride in the inauguration of the official headquarters of the Chair of Moroccan Studies on campus, stressing that it represents a distinctive aesthetic and architectural contribution, as well as “a valuable symbolic gift from Morocco to Palestine.”
For his part, Meziane welcomed his participation in the inauguration of the official headquarters of the Chair of Moroccan Studies at Al-Quds University, praising the reception extended by the university to this major academic project.
The Moroccan diplomat affirmed that allocating an official headquarters to the Chair constitutes “an important step in consolidating its institutional presence,” recalling that the Chair was born out of the deep historical relationship linking Morocco and Palestine, and that it embodies a form of sincere Moroccan solidarity with Al-Quds and the resilience of its inhabitants, particularly in light of the symbolism of the Moroccan Quarter, the Moroccan Gate, and the historical Moroccan presence in the Holy City.
For his part, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui emphasized that hosting the Chair of Moroccan Studies at Al-Quds University has provided it with “an integrated academic and institutional framework capable of ensuring its success and sustainability,” noting that the Agency, which operates under the supervision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chair of the Al-Quds Committee, considers education and scientific research as “a fundamental pillar for protecting identity and supporting social stability.”
According to Safae Nasser Eddine, this inauguration “is not limited to the opening of an administrative space, but rather consecrates a long-term scientific and cognitive process aimed at knowledge production, memory preservation, and the identification of in-depth research issues within the framework of Moroccan-Palestinian relations, in which Al-Quds holds crucial importance.”
The inauguration of the official headquarters of the Chair of Moroccan Studies crowns a foundational academic journey launched in March 2025, thus constituting an institutional base for the implementation of the Chair’s future plan, the strengthening of its research presence within Al-Quds University, and the consolidation of the Moroccan-Palestinian academic space as a living framework for knowledge production and preservation of collective memory.
