The President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, Yanja El Khattat, stated on Friday that the amended agricultural agreement between Morocco and the European Union (EU) constitutes a major diplomatic and economic victory for the Kingdom.
In a statement to MAP, El Khattat stressed that this agreement establishes the principle of inclusivity and grants the Kingdom’s southern provinces the same preferential conditions accorded to the other regions of the Kingdom, thus reaffirming Morocco’s territorial integrity.
The agreement, he added, solidifies Morocco’s position as a strategic partner who enjoys great trust among Europeans, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, reflects the EU’s strategic vision for its future relations with the Kingdom.
He noted, in this regard, that this agreement “concretely reflects the territorial unity of the Kingdom, from North to South, and confirms that no part of the country can benefit from preferential conditions to the detriment of another,” considering that it testifies, unequivocally, to the deep respect of Europeans for Moroccan sovereignty, and illustrates the solidity of the historical relations uniting the EU and the Kingdom.
According to El Khattat, this agreement also constitutes a victory for the sincere efforts aimed at developing Moroccan-European relations, with a view to supporting the socio-economic development of the southern provinces, driven by the new development model for these provinces, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2015.
Along these lines, he stressed that this measure is likely to contribute to strengthening agricultural investments in the region and to opening up broad prospects for investors, pointing out that the European market is now open to Moroccan products originating from all regions, particularly the Kingdom’s southern provinces.
This agreement will have positive repercussions, particularly in terms of investments, job and wealth creation, and the development of the agricultural sector in this high-potential region, El Khattat concluded.
