President of the Argentine Water Chamber, Gonzalo Meschengieser, commended the Moroccan experience in seawater desalination to overcome water stress, calling for promoting bilateral cooperation in this field.

“Morocco has gained experience in desalination that Argentina lacks,” the Argentine expert said, spotlighting the kingdom’s program to build 20 desalination plants by 2030, including the plant in Casablanca “which is at the forefront in terms of size and technology.”

Meschengieser also highlighted Morocco’s goal to produce, thanks to these desalination plants, some 1.7 billion cubic meters of water per year, stressing the relevance of the 2020-2027 National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation.

“Argentina and Morocco have enormous potential to work together” in this field, noted the president of the Chamber, which brings together all companies in the water and sanitation sector in Argentina.

The expert also highlighted Morocco’s contribution in water diplomacy, adding that the Kingdom could provide its experience “in reverse osmosis desalination and especially in the use of renewable energies, because in Argentina the problem of desalination is confronted with the high cost of energy”.

Referring to his country’s experience in water basin management and the development of water master plans, Meschengieser underlined that the two countries “have a lot to offer each other” in water management.
