Nayef Aguerd, the 29-year-old Moroccan central defender currently contracted to West Ham United, is entering a critical phase in his career this summer. After a strong season on loan at Real Sociedad, Aguerd has caught the attention of several major European clubs, with AS Roma leading the chase.

According to multiple Italian media outlets, AS Roma has made Aguerd a top priority to strengthen their defense. The club’s new sporting director, Frédéric Massara, views Aguerd as the perfect fit to bolster Roma’s backline.

Reports indicate that Roma has already submitted an initial offer to West Ham. However, the capital club faces stiff competition, notably from Juventus, which is reportedly in advanced talks with West Ham to secure the Moroccan international.

Marseille is also interested in the defender, but the French club’s preference for a loan deal, driven by financial constraints, places them at a disadvantage compared to the Italian sides ready to make a full investment.

During the recent season, Aguerd featured in 36 matches across La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Europa League for Real Sociedad. Known for his physical presence as well as his ability to build play from the back, Aguerd remains a key player for Morocco’s Atlas Lions, with over 55 international caps.

Other clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid have also shown interest, keeping the competition fierce. The coming weeks are expected to be decisive for Aguerd’s future, as Europe’s top clubs vie for the talented defender who emerged from the Mohammed VI Academy.
