Police at Rabat-Salé Airport arrested a 38-year-old French national on Wednesday, January 28, who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by French judicial authorities.
The suspect was taken into custody immediately upon arrival from a flight originating in Tunis. A routine check against the Interpol database revealed that he was wanted internationally through a Red Notice issued at the request of France’s Central Bureau in Paris.
He is accused of involvement in an international criminal network engaged in drug trafficking, distribution of controlled substances, and money laundering, and had a prison sentence pending in France.
Following the arrest, the suspect was placed under extradition procedures as ordered by the competent public prosecutor. Morocco’s Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat notified its French counterpart of the arrest in line with international cooperation protocols.
The operation affirms Morocco’s commitment to enforcing international security cooperation, particularly in tracking and apprehending individuals wanted for cross-border criminal activities.
The arrest comes just days after a similar operation in northern Morocco. On Monday, January 26, police in Tangier detained a 34-year-old French national who was also the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by French judicial authorities.
The suspect is accused of involvement in organized crime and international drug trafficking.
The Tangier arrest was carried out by officers from the city’s police prefecture as part of ongoing efforts to track down individuals sought for transnational criminal activities.
