Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, underscored the country’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of young people during an extraordinary session of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers held in Amman on Wednesday. The session focused on the Arab strategy for youth, peace, and security.
Bensaid highlighted that Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, has implemented numerous programs and projects aimed at addressing the needs of young people and integrating them into local development. Among these initiatives are the “Youth Pass,” which grants access to sports, cultural, and entertainment services, and the “Motatawi3” (Volunteer) program, designed to help youth enter the workforce and tackle its challenges.
The minister also pointed to the Morocco Youth Award, as well as other initiatives such as “Forsa” and “Awrach,” which focus on economically empowering young people and fostering entrepreneurial leadership. “The region is currently witnessing unprecedented geopolitical changes, making it essential to prioritize the future of youth, particularly those in conflict zones like Palestine.”
He reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, noting that it remains the foremost Arab issue, on par with Morocco’s national cause; the Moroccan Sahara. Under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, who serves as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, Morocco continues to advocate for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution based on a two-state solution.
Bensaid also highlighted that a significant portion of HM King Mohammed VI’s Throne Day speech was dedicated to the Palestinian cause, reflecting the personal commitment of the Sovereign to this issue.
The minister further emphasized the importance of protecting young people from the dangers of terrorism, extremism, and separatism in light of the region’s geopolitical developments. He expressed Morocco’s strong support for Jordan’s initiative concerning the Arab strategy for youth, peace, and security, calling for the establishment of clear timelines and institutional mechanisms to ensure its implementation.
The extraordinary session of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers took place on the sidelines of the high-level Global Forum on Youth, Peace, and Security, which began in Amman with Morocco among the participating nations. The forum, attended by Jordan’s Crown Prince Al Hussein Ibn Abdullah II, marked the launch of the Arab Strategy for Youth, Peace, and Security 2023-2028.
Organized by Jordan’s Ministry of Youth, the two-day forum will feature dialogue sessions focused on promoting and implementing the youth, peace, and security agenda, as well as outlining the priorities of member states in developing the strategy’s action plan. The forum aims to empower young people to promote peace and security, emphasizing regional cooperation and the establishment of clear strategic priorities.
