Following an international call for tenders launched by Morocco’s Nador West Med (NWM), a consortium made up of Boluda Towage France, a subsidiary of the world’s number 1 maritime towing company “Boluda Corporación Marítima”, and Marsa Maroc, obtained the license to operate towing and assistance activities at the NWM port over 20 years, starting the last quarter of 2026.
The consortium will set up a joint subsidiary to manage the license and conducted related investments, including the acquisition of a fleet of 4 tugs with a towing capacity of 80 tons, at a cost of around € 45 million, according to a press release.
The capital of the licensee subsidiary will be shared 51% by Boluda Towage France and 49% by Marsa Maroc, the same source notes.
This partnership will enable Marsa Maroc to structure its Towing Business Unit, created to capitalize on and develop the know-how specific to this activity, in time, into a recognized expertise. To date, Marsa Maroc’s Towing Business Unit provides this maritime service in 7 Moroccan ports (Nador, Al Hoceima, Mohammedia, Safi, Agadir, Laâyoune and Dakhla).
Marsa Maroc is the national leader in port terminal management, operating 25 terminals in 11 ports, with total traffic in excess of 60 million tons.
As part of its new strategic vision, Marsa Maroc aims to strengthen its position in the Mediterranean, while positioning itself as an integrated international port, maritime and logistics partner.
Boluda Towage France is a subsidiary of Boluda Corporación Marítima, world leader in marine services. Boluda Corporación Marítima operates a fleet of over 400 vessels in some 50 countries and 100 ports worldwide.
