The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and South African-based group of television channels, SuperSport, announced a broadcast rights partnership for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will take place in Morocco later this year.
The broadcasting agreement covers English and local languages across Sub-Saharan Africa, a statement from CAF said today.
The communique emphasized the importance of the agreement, stating that it strengthens CAF’s cooperation with “one of the continent’s leading sports broadcasters.”
The agreement aims to ensure that football fans across the continent are enjoying Africa’s largest football tournament.
SuperSport’s coverage of the competition will include expert analysis, featuring African football legends as well as multilingual commentary throughout the competition.
The competition will begin on December 21 and will continue until January 18.
Fans are already securing their tickets to attend the tournament, which will take place at nine stadiums in six host cities.
According to a statement from CAF last week, France tops the list of countries that booked their tickets for AFCON (109,237) in the first two phases of sales.
Belgium comes second (7,046), then the Netherlands (5,958), followed by the UK, Canada, as well as Germany, Switzerland, the US, Spain, and Italy.
“The enthusiasm extends far beyond the continent, with supporters eager to be part of one of the world’s most celebrated football spectacles,” CAF said.
The football confederation also cited Morocco’s tourism assets, describing it as a major destination for tourism on the continent.
