The President of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), Carlos René Hernández, emphasized on Wednesday in Laayoune the strategic nature of the partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the countries of Central America.

Speaking during a meeting with the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region and Governor of Laayoune Province, Abdeslam Bekrate, Hernández stated that his visit to Morocco is of great significance as it provides an opportunity to witness first-hand the progress achieved in the southern provinces, thanks to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Leading a high-level parliamentary delegation to Laayoune, the Parlacen President reaffirmed the Central American Parliament’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory. He stressed that this position “aligns with the core values of Parlacen, particularly the respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.”

He further noted that the economic and social development witnessed in the southern provinces is clear evidence that Morocco’s autonomy initiative offers a realistic solution capable of ensuring a dignified life for the local population in a climate of peace and stability.

Hernández also highlighted that his visit coincides with the 10th anniversary of the fruitful cooperation between the Moroccan Parliament and Parlacen, welcoming the significant achievements made within this framework, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Additionally, he commended the continuous institutional support provided by the Moroccan Parliament to Parlacen, notably during the organization of the regional migration forum in the Dominican Republic and the upcoming economic and security forum scheduled in El Salvador.

In this context, Hernández expressed his hope that the Central American Parliament could benefit from Morocco’s experience in key areas such as migration management, renewable energy, and modern agriculture.

For his part, Bekrate pointed out that the visit offers an opportunity to gain insight into the development momentum in the southern provinces and the achievements made under the Royal vision and care for the citizens of the Kingdom.

He also emphasized the foundations of advanced regionalization and decentralization adopted by Morocco as a mode of local governance, implemented progressively to equip regions with the human and financial resources needed to fulfill their responsibilities.

Bekrate recalled the strong electoral participation of residents in the southern provinces, highlighting that the region recorded the highest voter turnout during the 2021 legislative elections, reflecting the population’s deep engagement in ongoing national development efforts.

The Parlacen delegation’s visit program in Laâyoune also includes a meeting with the President of the City Council, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, along with field visits to various socio-cultural projects, sports facilities, and educational institutions.
