In execution of the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), a ceremony for the arrival of the first batch of six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters was held on Wednesday at the 1st Air Base of the Royal Air Force in Salé.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, in charge of National Defence Administration, Abdeltif Loudyi; the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour; the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa; Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the South Zone; Lieutenant General Mohamed Haramou, Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie; and General of Air Division Mohammed Gadih, Inspector of the FAR, according to a statement from the FAR General Staff.
The ceremony was also attended by a high-profile American delegation led by General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM), along with the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Morocco, Aimee Cutrona, the source added.
The acquisition of the Apache helicopters is part of the High Directives of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, aimed at modernizing the FAR.
In addition to strengthening the FAR’s defense capabilities, this program highlights the level of strategic cooperation and partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America in the fields of security and defense, the statement concludes.
