Switzerland’s participation in the 28th Fez Festival of World Sacred Music was an opportunity to highlight the depth of the cultural ties between the Swiss Confederation and Morocco, as a vector of multi-sectoral cooperation, Swiss Ambassador to Morocco Valentin Zellweger said.
Zellweger stressed to MAP the “central and structuring” role of culture in bilateral relations.
The ties between Morocco and Switzerland are “strong, whether political, economic or social”, and the presence of a large Moroccan community in Switzerland “is a living testimony to this”, he added, pointing out that culture is “a universal language uniting us”, as “perfectly illustrated” by the Fez Festival.
The participation at the festival of the Swiss ensemble Zeinada, performing Renaissance music, is fully embraces the theme of this year’s festival, “Renaissances”, he pointed out, adding that cultural cooperation between the two countries is “long-standing” and “particularly dynamic”.
For his part, Abderrafie Zouiten, President of the Esprits de Fès Foundation, which organizes the festival, welcomed the participation of “one of Switzerland’s most prestigious schools, the Basel School, which offers a magnificent performance of Baroque music”.
Zouiten added that the Fez Festival is “an opportunity to discover different cultures, countries and traditions”, constituting a platform of “culture and economic exchanges”.
Switzerland’s participation in this 28th edition restates both countries’ commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and exploring new avenues of cooperation, where culture serves as a solid foundation for mutually beneficial partnerships, according to the organizers.
