On the occasion of the Independence Manifesto Day, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) inaugurated a new police training school in Marrakech on Saturday, named “Marrakech Security Officers Training School.”

This school primarily aims to enhance the police training system and increase the capacity of training structures dedicated to police education, offering basic training programs for part of the new cohorts of trainees in the Security Officers division while simultaneously contributing to the enrichment and strengthening of ongoing training programs.

The opening of the new Marrakech Security Officers Training School is part of the implementation of the structural projects recently announced by the DGSN in its annual program, which focus on rehabilitating and developing police facilities, including strengthening police training infrastructure and supporting regional hubs for security training schools.

Since 2016, the DGSN has undertaken an ambitious project to develop the police training system as a key component of comprehensive and deep reform of the security function, encompassing the revision of the recruitment charter and training methods, as well as creating new specialized schools closer to the trainees geographically.

In line with this new strategic vision, the DGSN now operates several police training and security schools, including the Royal Police Institute in Kenitra, as well as training schools in Laayoune, Oujda, Fez, Tangier, Marrakech, Bouknadel, and Fouarat near Kenitra, with a High Center for Police Training in Ifrane set to be inaugurated soon as a hub for international and African security cooperation in police training.

Inspection Visit by the Director General of the DGSN and DGST

The Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, conducted an inspection visit to the new police training school in Marrakech before its official opening to assess the final preparations and arrangements for welcoming the first cohort of trainee security officers.

Hammouchi toured the various facilities of the new training school and reviewed presentations by the Director of Human Resources on the pedagogical training programs, police training curricula, and the short, medium, and long-term objectives of this new training facility.

During the visit, Hammouchi emphasized the importance and necessity of developing training programs to align with the new philosophy of security work, which focuses on serving citizens and improving security services.

He also highlighted the need to give special attention to the new trainees, as they represent the future of the police force, by equipping them with the necessary knowledge, instilling a culture of human rights, and educating them against inappropriate or questionable behavior to enable them to perform their noble duties of maintaining security, protecting property, and providing an environment conducive to exercising rights and freedoms.

Hammouchi was accompanied during the visit by the Inspector General, the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Public Security, the Director of the Information and Communication System, the Director of Equipment and Budget, the Prefect of Police of Marrakech, the Director of the Royal Police Institute, and the newly appointed Director of the Marrakech Security Officers Training School.

A New Police Training School with a Capacity of 500 Trainees

The new Marrakech Security Officers Training School was built on a total area of 7,826 square meters and has the capacity to accommodate 500 trainees throughout their basic training period in the Security Officers division.

This new training facility was designed to provide all necessary amenities, including accommodation, classrooms, training spaces, and outdoor areas, ensuring optimal conditions for trainees during their training period before joining service and recruitment centers.

The school features a residential wing with 16 accommodation units, a fully equipped kitchen, two separate dining halls, and multiple sanitary facilities. It also includes an educational wing with a 100-person multi-purpose hall, 10 classrooms, an IT room, and a videoconferencing room.

The facility is further equipped with a clinic offering primary and secondary medical consultations, an administrative area with 19 offices, a meeting room, a prayer hall, a ceremonial square for the national flag, and multiple spaces for paramilitary and sports training.

The DGSN aims for this school to contribute to strengthening specialization in security training, bringing training centers closer to trainees, and creating the conditions necessary for developing the training system for new cadres joining the National Security ranks. These new recruits are entrusted with the noble mission of safeguarding the nation’s security, its citizens, and their property.
