Economic diplomacy constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of Morocco’s foreign policy, as laid out by HM King Mohammed VI, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, said on Monday before the House of Representatives.
Responding to a question from the National Rally of Independents group, Bourita stressed that in a global environment marked by both challenges and opportunities, Morocco—thanks to the Royal Vision and its stability—holds significant potential for international cooperation and for enhancing the role of economic diplomacy.
In this context, the Minister noted that the government has implemented tangible measures to strengthen this dynamic. These include the establishment of the Directorate General for Economic Diplomacy within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the appointment of economic attachés to the majority of Moroccan embassies, and the signing of partnership agreements under the government’s foreign trade strategy.
Bourita pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves as “a channel” that economic stakeholders must capitalize on to promote Moroccan products and interests abroad, particularly at a time when the Kingdom enjoys numerous comparative advantages in a complex global landscape.
He also pointed out that economic diplomacy is primarily intended to empower national economic actors to leverage Morocco’s extensive diplomatic network—comprising nearly 110 embassies and 60 consulates—adding that the Moroccan Academy of Diplomatic Studies places special emphasis on economic issues in the training of future diplomats.
