Morocco remains a strategic partner for the European Union in the fight against climate change, thanks to its ambitious energy transition and decarbonization efforts, EU Ambassador Patricia Llombart Cussac said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the “Scaling up Carbon Market in Africa” conference in Casablanca, Llombart Cussac said the EU’s Green Partnership with Morocco, launched in 2022, has become the central framework for bilateral cooperation on climate-related issues.

She said the partnership gives Morocco early access to EU policy developments under the Green Deal, including carbon pricing, green hydrogen, and circular economy regulations. It has also enabled the EU to channel a significant portion of its financial cooperation to support Morocco’s green transition strategies.

The ambassador reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality, calling joint efforts on carbon markets and pricing mechanisms vital to accelerating the green transition and unlocking mutual opportunities.

The conference is organized by the Casablanca Finance City Authority (CFCA) and CDG Group, with support from Germany’s GIZ, and focused on Africa’s carbon market development and Casablanca’s emergence as a regional climate finance hub.
