As of Friday, evacuation efforts in Moroccan communes at risk of flooding had resulted in the transport and evacuation of a total of 154,309 people across several provinces, as part of preventive measures aimed at preserving lives and ensuring the safety of citizens, according to updated data from the Ministry of the Interior.
The number of people evacuated reached 112,695 in the province of Larache, 23,174 in the province of Kenitra, 14,079 in the province of Sidi Kacem, and 4,361 in the province of Sidi Slimane, according to the same source.
These gradual evacuation operations of residents from communes exposed to flood risks are ongoing, based on a proactive approach that takes into account the gravity and extent of potential damage, while providing the logistical means to ensure transportation of the affected in optimum conditions.
The vast majority of Ksar El Kébir residents have left the city as part of the preventive measures adopted, the same source emphasizes, noting that field data and observation forecasts show that flooding persists and that the hydrological situation is likely to worsen, thereby increasing the level of risk.
To this end, citizens are urged to remain extremely vigilant and cautious and not to venture back into the affected areas during this period until the situation improves and official instructions are issued on the matter, with a view to protecting lives and ensuring the safety of all.
