Morocco was elected on Friday in Rome as Vice-Chair of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) under the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Morocco’s election, represented by the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), took place during the 20th session of the Commission, held from March 9 to 13 in the Italian capital.
According to Morocco’s Permanent Mission to the UN organizations in Rome, this election reflects the recognition the Kingdom enjoys on the international stage in the field of plant health, as well as its sustained commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation aimed at protecting plant genetic resources, facilitating safe trade and contributing to global food security.
As the governing body of the IPPC, the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures is tasked in particular with adopting international standards in this field and promoting the strengthening of national capacities to ensure sustainable and resilient agricultural systems. It also seeks to guide cooperation among countries in preventing and combating the spread of pests affecting plants and plant products.
According to the same source, Morocco will assume the presidency of this Commission in 2027, marking a further sign of confidence in the Kingdom’s leadership and its commitment to effective and inclusive international governance in the phytosanitary field.
Through this mandate, the Kingdom will continue its efforts in a spirit of partnership and consultation, with a view to supporting the implementation of international standards and actively contributing to the protection of plant health worldwide.
