France’s national team coach Didier Deschamps has named Morocco, Egypt, and Cameroon as strong contenders for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 title.
Speaking during the Global Sports Summit in Dubai, Deschamps explained that he has been following the tournament closely, especially since Senegal – France’s group-stage opponent at the upcoming World Cup – is competing.
He noted that despite the holiday season, his passion for football keeps him engaged. “I may not watch every match in full, but I follow enough to understand the level of competition,” he said.
When asked about his predictions, Deschamps pointed to three teams. “Morocco, Egypt, and Cameroon are all capable of winning. Each has the quality and experience needed. I don’t want to single out one team over another, because all of them deserve recognition,” he explained.
The French coach added that surprises are always possible in major tournaments. “It’s the same as in the World Cup. We often discuss the same leading teams, but unexpected results can happen. Africa’s best sides are competing, and they have players who perform at the highest level in Europe’s top clubs,” he said.
Morocco’s recent performances, including their group-stage campaign, have strengthened their reputation as one of the continent’s most complete teams. Egypt, with its history of success, and Cameroon, known for resilience and talent, remain traditional favorites.
