Morocco has emerged as the “new Eldorado” for automobile manufacturers, with the automotive sector is now considered a “pillar of the Moroccan economy” and the country’s “leading export sector”, according to the French newspaper “Le Dauphiné Libéré”.

Already ranked among the “most attractive countries for French manufacturers,” Morocco hosts Renault’s largest factory in the world, located in Tangier, the newspaper highlights, recalling the presence of the Franco-Italian-American group Stellantis, which has relocated part of its production to its factory in Kenitra, as well as the Chinese company Sentury Tyres, which specializes in tire manufacturing.

“On the outskirts of Tangier, Renault’s factory stretches across 300 hectares. Inside, 7,000 employees of the French brand assemble several models, including the Dacia Sandero, the best-selling car in Europe. Renault’s largest factory in the world is indeed in Morocco,” the same source notes, emphasizing the Kingdom’s appeal, particularly due to its low labor costs in the automotive sector.

Renault also operates a site in Casablanca, producing the Dacia Sandero 3 (more than 69,000 units), primarily for the European market.

In 2023, approximately 470,000 vehicles were produced in Moroccan factories and exported to Europe, surpassing even China’s export volume, according to a report cited by Team France Export. Europe remains Morocco’s main market, with “80% of new vehicle exports crossing the Mediterranean.”

As for Stellantis’ plant in Kenitra, the article cites a press release of the Franco-Italian-American group indicating that the facility is expected to produce at least 400,000 vehicles by 2027. Located near the Atlantic coast, the factory currently manufactures models including the Fiat 500, Peugeot 208, and Citroën Ami.
