Olivier Vallée, French economist and political scientist, has called on Sahel countries to benefit from Morocco’s rich experience in agriculture.

“Morocco has both the fertilizer resources necessary to strengthen food security in Africa, and an extensive experience in the transformation and modernization of its agriculture,” Vallée told MAP on the sidelines of an international conference held on March 1-2 in Marrakech under the theme: “Food and energy security in Arab and African countries in the light of climate and geostrategic changes”.

In this regard, he called on Sahel countries to seize this opportunity offered by Morocco to increase their agricultural output.

The expert emphasized that Morocco’s policy related to the protection of sensitive areas (oases, forests…), can be beneficial to the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel.

Recalling that Morocco plays an important religious, spiritual and economic role in the Sahel region, which dates back to the 15th century, this political scientist noted that the Kingdom’s policy of “active neutrality” within the framework of the economic blockade imposed on Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, was welcomed by these three West African countries.

He also underlined that HM King Mohammed VI’s Initiative to promote access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahel countries represents a strategic, economic and political opening that will allow landlocked States of this zone to diversify their economic partners.
