French Minister Delegate for Transport Philippe Tabarot on Tuesday commended Morocco’s efforts to combat road insecurity, emphasizing its role in fostering global dialogue on road safety.

Speaking to MAP on the sidelines of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, Tabarot lauded the event’s organization, which brought together more than 100 Transport and Interior ministers from around the world.

Road safety is a universal challenge that demands stronger international cooperation, and Morocco plays a key role in advancing this crucial dialogue, he underlined.

Tabarot underscored the need for collective action, highlighting priority areas such as youth education, public awareness campaigns, cross-border cooperation to share expertise and technology, and innovations aimed at reducing traffic accidents.

He also stressed the importance of international solidarity, particularly between Europe and Africa, noting that France has reduced road fatalities threefold over the past two decades and is willing to share its expertise.

Morocco, he added, serves as a bridge between Africa and Europe, playing a pivotal role in regional cooperation, highlighting joint France-Morocco mobility projects, including the high-speed rail partnership with Alstom and the modernization of Morocco’s air fleet with Airbus.

Tabarot also praised Morocco’s track record in hosting major international events, reinforcing its status as a key player in global road safety initiatives.

The Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, held under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, is organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with the World Health Organization.

Themed “Commit to Life,” the event is drawing official delegations from more than 100 countries, including ministers responsible for transport, interior affairs, infrastructure, and health.
