The Kingdom of Eswatini’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Dlamini Shakantu, said on Thursday that the future Dakhla Atlantic port is a massive project that kicks off a new era for intra-African connectivity and trade.
Speaking to the press following a visit paid to the port’s construction site, Dlamini Shakantu emphasized that thanks to the clear-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Dakhla Atlantic port will be a genuine bridge linking Africa to the rest of the world.
Praising Morocco for this great project, which has been carried out from start to finish with Moroccan expertise and know-how, she said that this future port platform represents a model of African development based on national skills.
In this regard, Dlamini Shakantu expressed her country’s firm commitment to taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the port of Dakhla Atlantique.
This structuring project represents “a major infrastructure linking Africa, Europe, and South America, and is fully in line with the vision of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), promoting the strengthening of trade between countries on the continent,” she added.
The minister also seized the opportunity to reaffirm the Kingdom of Eswatini’s support to Morocco’s territorial integrity, the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara, and the autonomy plan as the “only credible, serious and realistic solution” to the regional dispute.
“Our presence in Dakhla embodies our support and solidarity with Morocco,” she affirmed, stressing that the Kingdom of Eswatini welcomes the opportunity to examine new bilateral cooperation prospects.
Dlamini Shakantu co-chaired, on Wednesday in Rabat, alongside the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, the proceedings of the first session of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the two countries.
She also paid, during the same day, a visit to her country’s Consulate General in Laayoune, which opened in October 2020. This diplomatic representation, among the first in the capital of the Moroccan Sahara, testifies to the solid ties of friendship between the two Kingdoms and their mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in several fields.
