Orange Maroc and Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world leader in cloud computing services, inked, Wednesday in Marrakech on the sidelines of Gitex Africa, which runs in the Red City until May 31, a strategic partnership agreement.
Signed by Amir Rao, Director of Telco Product Management, EC2 Edge Services at AWS, and Hendrik Kasteel, Managing Director of Orange Maroc, this partnership agreement focuses on territoriality and data security.
It aims to support the momentum of the territorial Cloud market in Morocco, a fast-growing sector that ranks among the continent’s most dynamic markets, with significant annual growth forecast, taking the sector’s economic weight to 7 billion dirhams by 2027
This collaboration, the first of its kind in Morocco and North Africa, will also accelerate development in the financial, healthcare and augmented & virtual reality sectors.
It will also strengthen the local digital ecosystem, fostering innovation and supporting the growth of emerging companies and start-ups through simplified access to Cloud resources and development tools.
Morocco is a dynamic market where digital transformation is progressing at high speed, Kasteel said on this occasion, adding that Orange Maroc, a player committed to supporting the Kingdom’s digital transformation, is proud to join forces with the world leader in Cloud solutions, Amazon Web Services.
This collaboration ought to open up new opportunities for innovation and growth for both the public and private sectors, he said.
For his part, Brahim Sbai, Vice President of Orange Maroc, described the partnership as an extraordinary opportunity to support Morocco in its vision of digitalization, in both public and private sectors.
Sbai added that it is also an opportunity to help companies migrate their client applications to a secure and local cloud.
Migration to the cloud will also enable companies and public authorities to reduce IT infrastructure costs and improve operational efficiency.
Through this unprecedented agreement with a global giant, Orange Maroc is in line with Morocco’s ambition to become a benchmark technology hub in Africa, and is fully committed to guaranteeing businesses the security, compliance and control of their data.
This commitment translates into the physical presence of AWS services within Orange Maroc Datacenters, offering several key advantages, including Ultra-Low Latency, as AWS Wavelength integrates AWS computing and storage services directly into the telecommunications networks at the edge.
This enables developers to create applications requiring ultra-low latency, by deploying them closer to end-users, thus improving the performance of mission-critical applications.
It’s also about Data residency, ensuring that data remains localized in Morocco, with the partnership ensuring compliance with local data residency laws, reinforcing legal safety under Moroccan laws and establishing a reliable digital ecosystem.
The benefits also include a complete Cloud ecosystem, as Orange Maroc brings the entire AWS ecosystem to Morocco, offering local public administrations and businesses access to a wide catalog of AWS services
These services cover diverse areas such as computing, storage, databases, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT), among others.
It also involves local billing in Dirhams, as AWS services provided by Orange Maroc are billed in Moroccan Dirhams, simplifying cost management and offering a convenient local billing solution.
