The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, held talks in Marrakech on Friday with his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orban, who is visiting the Kingdom.

The meeting celebrated the strong and growing friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Hungary, reflecting the commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to diversifying partnerships with European Union member states. This commitment has led to significant advancements in bilateral relations in recent years, according to a press release from the Department of the Head of Government.

The two officials emphasized the need to further enhance economic collaboration between Morocco and Hungary. Morocco currently stands as Hungary’s top trading partner in Africa, with trade reaching approximately 4.1 billion Dirhams (382 million euros) in 2022, representing a 25% increase compared to the previous year.

Discussions centered on the upcoming 5th Morocco-Hungary Economic Commission, set to take place in October 2024. This commission will mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, added the same source.

During the meeting, Orban extended an invitation to the Head of Government for a working visit to Hungary.

The talks also provided an opportunity to discuss several regional and international issues, to examine ways of developing the partnership at all levels, and to commend the convergence of views between the two countries on many international issues, concluded the press release.
