Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of landing in Provence, held on Thursday in Saint-Raphaël (South-East of France), under presidency of French Republic President Emmanuel Macron.
The Head of Government was accompanied at the ceremony, which took place at the Boulouris national necropolis in Saint-Raphaël, by HM the King’s Ambassador to France Samira Sitail. This event is part of a series of international commemorations held all year round to celebrate the landing’s 80th anniversary. It pays tribute to the 350,000 men who landed on August 15, 1944 in Provence, the majority of which were French and soldiers from African countries, including several Moroccans. This commemorative event was marked by tribute speeches and the decoration by President Macron of three veterans who fought with the Allies during the Second World War, including Moroccan Larbi Jawa, who was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
