Journalists from Greece and Croatia received top honors at the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) awards ceremony, held Thursday in Marrakech at the close of the organization’s 33rd General Assembly.

Fouad Arif, AMAN President and Director General of Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP), presented the awards following two days of discussions among member agencies in the Moroccan city.

Ioanna Kardara, a reporter with Greece’s ANA-MPA, won the award for best article for her piece “Deserted Cities and Isolation: The Impact of Natural Disasters on the Elderly.” Kardara thanked the Alliance and her colleagues, saying she was proud to receive the recognition.

Croatia’s Mario Strmotic, a photojournalist with HINA, was awarded best photo for his image depicting large-scale wildfires in the Dalmatia region. In a recorded message, he called the award “a powerful incentive” to continue sharing impactful stories through photography.

An honorary mention in the photo category went to Malak Chagwani of Tunisia’s TAP news agency for her image titled ” Worn by time, the Tunisian shepherd grips his staff, pockets full of bottles, his clothes whispering resilience in the winds of North Africa.”
