Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds to Continue in Morocco

Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail, in addition to strong winds, are expected to hit several provinces across Morocco on Thursday and Friday.

A new weather alert forecasts heavy rain between 60 and 90 millimeters, which started Thursday at 12 p.m. and will last through Friday 11 p.m. in Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, Al Hoceima, and Taza.

The same weather is expected to affect the provinces of Taounate and Ouezzane with rainfall of between 40 and 60 millimeters.

Rain between 30 and 40 millimeters is also expected in Kenitra, Sefrou, Fez, Sidi Kacem, Beni Mellal, Meknes, Tangier-Assilah, M’Diq-Fnideq, Moulay Yacoub, Fahs-Anjra, El Hajeb, Khenifra, Ifrane, Khemisset, and Sidi Slimane.

Strong winds between 75 to 85 kilometers per hour was forecast to begin this morning and last until 7 p.m. this evening in the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Tangier-Assilah, Tetouan, M’Diq-Fnideq, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, and Midelt.

The same weather will affect Kenitra, Berkane, Driouch, Figuig, Nador, Oujda-Angad, El Jadida,  Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Taounate, Taza, Chefchaouen, and Taourirt.

On Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the winds will also hit the provinces of Taroudant, alongside Al Haouz, Tetouan, M’Diq-Fnideq, Berkane, Driouch, Figuig, Tata, Ouarzazate, and Jerada.

Nador, Tiznit, Larache, TangierAssilah, Taza, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Ifrane, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Oujda-Angad, Azilal, Taourirt, and Tingir expect the same weather during the same period.

Moroccan authorities, including the Royal Armed Forces, have been mobilized in all flood-prone areas, with the aim of safeguarding lives and continuing the evacuation process due to weather disturbances.

Dams and rivers, particularly in the north, have reached their capacity, with rising water levels causing floods.
