Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Omar Zniber, on Monday highlighted the far-reaching royal strategies aimed at reducing social and territorial disparities.

Speaking during the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, the diplomat thanked the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for his report underscoring the substantial progress achieved by Morocco in promoting and protecting human rights.

Addressing agenda item 2, Zniber emphasized the high-level directives announced by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in the latest Throne Speech aimed at reducing social and spatial disparities as part of the ongoing democratization of governance institutions.

These strategies are closely aligned with the nationwide rollout of social and health protection to the entire population, he said.

At the multilateral level, Zniber recalled that the Kingdom hosted the Sixth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labor in Marrakech from February 11 to 13, 2026. The conference’s outcome document, the “Marrakech Framework,” enshrines a human rights-based approach.

He expressed hope that the International Labour Office would adopt a partnership-based approach with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to implement this framework and eradicate child labor within the established timeframe.

In the same vein, he announced that Morocco will host, on June 3 and 4, 2026, a multilateral meeting dedicated to the prevention of torture through fundamental safeguards, as well as a focused retreat aimed at strengthening the Universal Periodic Review, ahead of the launch of its fifth cycle.

Zniber also announced a voluntary contribution of $500,000 in response to the High Commissioner’s funding appeal, along with an additional $10,000 to the Special Fund for the Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture, reaffirming Morocco’s steadfast commitment to the UN human rights system.
