King Mohammed VI sent a message of deep condolences and sympathy to the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, after the severe flooding that has struck large parts of the country.
In his message, King Mohammed VI expressed his sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to President Subianto, the grieving families, and the people of Indonesia following this major natural disaster.
The floods have caused many deaths and widespread damage, and the King wished a quick recovery for all those injured.
The monarch also stressed Morocco’s solidarity and support for the Indonesian people and government during these difficult times, asking God Almighty to help Indonesia overcome this hard trial.
Indonesia is facing one of its worst flooding disasters in recent history. Heavy monsoon rains and storms have triggered widespread floods and landslides, especially on the island of Sumatra. The disaster has affected millions of people.
The floods has killed hundreds of people, and hundreds more are still missing.
Nearly one million residents have been displaced from their homes and many villages are submerged.
Recovery and rebuilding will be costly, with Indonesia estimating more than $3 billion needed for reconstruction.
The Indonesian government has deployed experts, aid teams, and rescue workers to help with recovery and assess damage in the worst-hit provinces.
International help is arriving too, with aid from countries and organizations assisting in relief efforts. The European Union has announced €2.4 million ($2.9 million) in emergency assistance for the most affected areas in the region, including Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Officials warn that heavy rains may continue, making rescue operations and recovery even more difficult.
