Morocco’s embassy in Washington has extended solidarity with people affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County.

The embassy informed citizens residing in the affected areas of an emergency line, which they can use to ask for any urgent inquiries.

Moroccans seeking information can either dial +1 (202) 499-1050 or email the embassy at [email protected].

The embassy also urged Moroccan diaspora members to abide by safety guidelines put in place by American authorities to address the situation.

Citizens in harm’s way of the disaster should keep themselves updated with the latest news on the fires through credible channels and sources, and respect any immediate evaluation orders, the embassy advised.

Additionally, citizens should also avoid any unnecessary movement to regions close to the affected areas

The death toll from the tragic wildfires has now reached at least 24, reports said, but is feared to increase as strong winds continue to sweep the area and cause the blaze to spread.

The fire has already swept through 40 acres in the region and destroyed commutes and over 12,4300 structures, NBC News reported.

Several celebrities and influencers have pledged their support to the LA fire relief fund that helps those affected by the tragedy.

Beyonce’s Foundation, BeyHood, announced it would donate $2.5 million to victims of the LA area fires.

“The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires,” the foundation stated.

Last week, President Joe Biden announced that his administration is sending all federal resources possible to southern California.

According to the Pentagon, more than 600 California National Guardsmen have been activated, including 200 military police for security operations, 10 helicopters for firefighting and search and rescue operations, and 14 crews for fuel mitigation.

Authorities remain on high-alert as there have been reports of looting of evacuated homes as well as arsonists seeking to add chaos to the already dire situation throughout LA County.

New York Times reported on Sunday that firefighters have made progress over the weekend, but fierce winds continue to affect the region.
