The UK-Morocco Strategic Dialogue, which took place last June in Rabat, marked “an important change” in relations between the two countries, according to Hamish Falconer, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the UK Foreign Office.

“The Foreign Secretary (David Lammy) co-chaired a session of the UK-Morocco Strategic Dialogue on June 1 in Rabat. During this session, agreements were signed covering the fields of education, health, infrastructure, and trade,” he noted in a statement to the House of Commons, the lower house of the British Parliament.

This fifth session of the Strategic Dialogue marked “an important change” in relations between the two countries, the official said.

Falconer also stressed that Lammy expressed the United Kingdom’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara. “We are continuing this work together and maintaining frequent contact” in this regard, he added.

Launched in London on July 5, 2018, the UK-Morocco Strategic Dialogue is an important mechanism aimed at consolidating the historic ties between the two kingdoms and continuing to strengthen and deepen the relationship between the two countries.

It revolves around key themes for reinforcing bilateral cooperation, namely the political and security track, the economic track, and the human and cultural track. The dialogue also addresses regional, international, and multilateral issues.
