The Mayor of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse, on Tuesday called on French economic operators to seize the investment opportunities available in Morocco.
“We must pay close attention to the promising development momentum underway in Morocco and support the opportunities arising in the country,” Delafosse stressed during an Economic Day held in Montpellier in coordination with the Kingdom’s Consulate General.
Highlighting the large-scale projects launched in several Moroccan regions, particularly in the provinces, the Mayor of Montpellier cited renewable energies, healthcare, audiovisual production, decarbonization, and transport as “highly promising sectors for the future of our partnership.”
“We still have much to undertake together, guided by a win-win vision in key growth sectors. Economic actors in particular are invited to support the new momentum of bilateral relations,” noted Delafosse, who also serves as President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole.
Recalling his recent visit to several cities in the Kingdom, Delafosse emphasized the enormous development and investment potential in Dakhla, a region that has already sparked the interest of many Montpellier-based operators.
In the same vein, Vice-President of the Occitanie Region in charge of the economy, Jalil Benabdillah, underscored the crucial importance of decentralized cooperation and territorial diplomacy in these exceptional Morocco-France relations.
The growing interest of French economic actors, especially in the Montpellier region, for the Kingdom is illustrated by the creation of the Morocco Occitanie Club, aimed at fostering a favorable environment for business flows between the two sides, he stressed.
During this economic forum, which was attended by the Kingdom’s Consul General in Montpellier, Soumia Bouhamidi, round tables were dedicated to key partnership sectors between the French region and Morocco.
Discussions focused on ways to support industrial cooperation in strategic sectors such as cultural and creative industries, renewable energy and hydrogen, AI in healthcare, and the decarbonization of air and maritime transport.
The economic meeting brought together representatives from the Occitanie region, the city of Montpellier, Moroccan and French business leaders, as well as representatives of several institutions, including the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).
