Participants in a panel held Thursday in Tangier as part of the 17th edition of the MEDays International Forum emphasized that Morocco represents a source of inspiration for education, innovation, and skills development in Africa.

Speaking at the panel themed “Emerging Africa, Winning Africa: Strengthening Sovereignty, Enhancing Governance & Securing Stability,” Djibouti’s Minister of Higher Education and Research, Nabil Mohamed Ahmed, stressed that Morocco is a major source of inspiration for Djibouti in the field of education.

He highlighted the Kingdom’s ability to create high-performing centers of excellence that help train elites recognized on the international stage. This dynamic, according to him, enables Morocco to see many of its talents join the world’s top institutions, making the Kingdom a model from which other countries can beneficially draw inspiration.

The minister also emphasized the importance of the circulation of skills and the challenge posed by the return of talent, noting that the real question is how to encourage their return so they can share their expertise and contribute to collective enrichment.

Taking Morocco as an example, Mohamed Ahmed underlined that sustainable investment in knowledge and innovation is an essential lever for attracting, retaining, and bringing back talent. This approach, he noted, offers a relevant path for all countries wishing to accelerate their development and strengthen their human capital.

For his part, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, expressed appreciation for Morocco’s support to the education sector, recalling that the number of Ghanaian students welcomed each year in the Kingdom continues to grow.

In a statement to MAP following the panel, Quayson noted that this dynamic directly promotes access for young Ghanaians to science and to the most modern training fields, adding that it paves the way for continuous strengthening of cooperation between the two countries.

The Ghanaian official also praised Morocco’s numerous advances in several strategic sectors, affirming that these achievements constitute a “source of inspiration” for Ghana, particularly in the areas of education, innovation, and structural development.

For her part, HM the King’s Itinerant Ambassador Assia Bensalah Alaoui stated that Africa must move “from emergence to victory” by adopting smart sovereignty and turning its potential into concrete actions, recalling that the continent’s ambition is to define its own future.

Bensalah Alaoui stressed that the continent’s priority is to promote balanced partnerships, strengthen economic sovereignty, and develop its capacity to create value while mastering its strategic choices, in line with the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI for a “sovereign Africa confident in its own abilities.”

She also noted that sovereignty requires green industrialization, economic integration, and energy development, emphasizing that Africa must fully capitalize on the global shift toward decarbonization.

In this regard, she highlighted the central role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which she described as the “engine of economic sovereignty,” calling for a shift from ratification to effective implementation, the development of regional value chains, and the strengthening of infrastructure and logistical connectivity.

Panelists also provided an overview of the challenges facing Africa, stressing that the continent stands at a strategic turning point for consolidating its political and economic sovereignty, strengthening public governance, and securing institutional stability.

Participants placed particular emphasis on the importance of the AfCFTA, regional integration, industrial transformation, and continental value chains in reducing excessive dependence on foreign markets.

They also highlighted the need to rethink governance models to enhance institutional resilience, inclusion, and transparency, in a context marked by political transitions, rising security risks, and geo-economic tensions.

Organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI and initiated by the Amadeus Institute, the MEDays Forum is one of Africa’s major annual events, bringing together heads of state, policymakers, experts, and international actors.

This edition, held from November 26 to 29 under the theme “Fractures and Polarization: Reinventing the Global Equation,” features around fifty sessions covering a wide range of major geostrategic themes, with a focus on the issues, challenges, and opportunities facing Africa and the Global South.
